At first glance, the painting presents two nearly identical female faces side by side, each with a hair bun swept neatly atop the head. The background shimmers in gold, giving the work an almost iconic or sacred quality. Across both faces runs a thick, horizontal band of pale paint, obscuring the eyes entirely. This single stroke unifies the two figures and removes one of the most recognizable markers of individual identity: the gaze.

Despite having no visible eyes, the figures’ red lips, subtle jawlines, and softly contoured cheeks remain distinct, hinting at a quiet confidence. The stark black of their hair contrasts sharply with the warm glow of the gold. By duplicating the visage, the painting suggests themes of duality or mirrored selves—a reflection that could symbolize two facets of the same person or two separate entities so closely aligned they appear as one.

The bar across their eyes raises questions about anonymity, hidden perspective, and perhaps even censorship. Is this a statement on the universal nature of identity, emphasizing what we have in common rather than what sets us apart? Or is it a reflection on how we often “blind” ourselves or are “blinded” by external forces?

Overall, “Glendella” is a striking, minimalist exploration of self and concealment. The crisp geometry of the paint band, the luminous background, and the repetition of the portrait combine to create a meditative puzzle—one that draws the viewer into contemplating what remains unseen when the most expressive part of a face is deliberately hidden.

From the artist -

Glendella is the embodiment of Spring and inspiration. She comes to those Asahara has found worthy. Asahara is the embodiment of Winter and opportunity, she gives it to all and whether they succeed or fail they are worthy if they but take opportunity when it presents itself.  Glendella comes to those who put in the effort.

She is blind, she is deaf, she does not speak. She cares not what one does with inspiration, she gives it freely and without judgment to any who have proven they would use it.
